Artista multidisciplinar que tem centrado a sua investigação na relação arte-contexto, refletindo sobre os paradigmas da sociedade atual e os problemas da paisagem. A sua obra constrói-se a partir da abstração do quotidiano, gerando a sua deslocação em direção à arquitetura e ao espaço. Uma característica que se destaca no seu trabalho é a materialidade: elementos de baixo custo, como a malha raschel, papelão ondulado, madeira e objetos achados. Estudou Arquitetura e Artes Visuais em Santiago, continuando a estudar escultura e gravura no México. Desde 2009 vive e trabalha em Puerto Varas - sul do Chile - onde desenvolveu diversos projetos coletivos e individuais. Já expôs no Chile, México, Estados Unidos, França e Portugal. Em 2019 expôs individualmente no Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Chile com o projeto Polímeros Translúcidos. A sua obra faz parte de coleções privadas e públicas como o Ministério da Cultura das Artes e do Patrimônio e o Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Chile. Realizou residências artísticas no Chile e no exterior, destacando-se sua participação no programa de Residências Internacionais do Projeto Siqueirios: SAPS - La Tallera, México 2017. Recentemente participou da Residência Al Lado (Lima, Peru 2021). Em 2023 estará na High House Working Residency (Norfolk, Inglaterra) e é atualmente artista convidado na ARTWORKS (Porto, Portugal Maio-Junho 2022).
A network of aesthetic resistance is created in the territory - a great filter - a human support that evolves parallel to the consumer society. Abstractions of memory in transformation shake the everyday or the censored through the aesthetic use. The collected, ordinary, industrial and commonly used materials give coordinates to the site. New "constructive habitats" in a spatial silence and orality. Sebastián Baudrand lives in a process, opening new spaces where to ponder the paradigms of nowadays society and its need to point the territory, the landscape and nature, questioning its structures through site-specific installations that seek, with subtle intervention, to recognise the root in uprooted lands. During the months of May and June, he did an artist residency at ArtWorks. As usual in his practice, the artist raised several investigative layers that fed the process of abstraction and conceptualization of the works. A historical layer that manifests itself linguistically and orally through myths; a geographical layer where aspects of archaeology, ethnography and memory are syncretized; and a present layer, where the works intertwine the ordinary and the extraordinary.
